Riding a Recumbent Trike- How it all started
As the main page states, this site will focus on my diabetes, my health, my technology, and my wife and I riding our recumbent trikes.
This is how it all began… The video above explains it in less detail, so this will be the more detailed version…
My wife an I, trying to loose weight, and start a more healthy life style, were walking at the Stones River National Battlefield, in January 2017. While walking, I heard a bell ring, like a bike bell, so we moved to the side and 2 bikes passed on on the left. Once was a normal looking bike, maybe a mountain bike, or a road bike. It was the other bike that intrigued us. It was a 3 wheeled bike with 2 wheels in the front, and one in the back, and the rider was lounging back like he was in a recliner! It was the weirdest bike I ever saw!
I hollered out to the rider and asked “Is that bike as comfortable as it looks?” He hollered back that it was, and he asked if I wanted to try it… Well I chickened out, and said “No Thank You.” When I got home, I raced to the computer to do a google search on “riding a trike laying back”, and found out they were called Recumbent Trikes. I found a Recumbent Bike shop right here in Murfreesboro, called Recumbent Bikes of Tennessee. After some searching and talking with my wife, we decided this was the ticket to restoring our health. It would give us time spent together, and help in our endeavor to become more healthy.
I went to this bike shop and talked with the owner, Bobby Hanes, and test rode the TerraTrike Rover 8 speed trike. I loved it from the first 3 feet I rode it. It was so comfortable! Not anything like our mountain bikes, where after a few miles the pain was unbearable, and eventually we quit riding all together.
So now starts a new chapter in our lives.
…See You On The Trails!
