Time keeps on ticking

Posted on November 6, 2024May 18, 2025

Boy if that isn’t the truth! My “official” retirement date is July 5th, 2026. I have to work at least one day in July to get my longevity and the raise given to all employees.

I will miss my job, I really enjoy being the Equipment Manager at Old Fort Golf Course in Murfreesboro, TN, where I manage about 1.6 million dollars of equipment. Just as my equipment fleet ages, so do I.

Time really flies by, it doesn’t seem that long ago I started working at the course as the irrigation technician, now over 29 years later, I am the oldest full-time employee and have been there the longest. Wow! that hurts.

But I digress…

Many years ago, in Illinois, I played golf at Red Bud country club a lot and I thought it would be cool to work at a golf course. 29 years of working at one, and I’m wondering what was I thinking? I no longer play golf; I really don’t like the game anymore. I found there are better things to do than to chase a little white ball around.

Camping! Camping is much better than playing golf. Hiking! Hiking is much better than playing golf. Flying a Simulator! Flying a simulator is much better than playing golf.

Until next time,

…Thomas
